- Welcome
- Leveled groups breakout (15 minutes)
- Review concerns from August meeting
- Courtney took concerns from last meeting created a document that was shared with Gayle, Courtney and Dana to review
- Mike Person has been given list of site facilities concerns and he will follow up on that
- Teachers have been hired at Donaldson Way
- More training is being provided for IA’s on their new job descriptions
- Review concerns from August meeting
- New site concerns
- Issue at Middle Schools we are personally being asked to give up our preps to cover for classes that do not have subs
- The money from subs that don’t show up if a teacher gives up their prep they should get paid. If you are on leave and sub deduct is taken from the teacher where does that sub deduct money go? It should go to the teacher who covered the class.
- On the upcoming professional development days such as 10/4/19 not much care was given in what options would be available taking into consideration for functional skills
- With the PD day on 10/11/19 there will not be compensation for travel since we are employees of the district not a specific site.
- There are elementary schools that have cockroaches
- Sped kids who do not have IF’s what is being done teachers are being physically assaulted and nothing is being done. The teachers who are having those issues need to send Gayle an email
- High School is just so frustrated that nothing is getting resolved
- At the last council meeting PBIS was mentioned, MTSS process was addressed and Dr. Mucetti is creating a task force to address behavior. We are seeing behaviors that we have never seen before and not knowing how to handle with a classroom full of kids.
- When was the decision made that teachers lost the power to determine consequences for student behavior. Teachers can still set consequences for students (ie: student chews gum teacher can give consequence of a lunch time detention) This is not a unique change 1 to NVUSD and an ongoing conversation is taking place throughout the state. We are seeing levels of stress and depression amongst students and college
- Students are engaging in behaviors such as coming to school intoxicated, fighting, etc. and they miss the rest of that day and are back the next. A conversation needs to be had regarding taking control of our schools back and making it safe for the other students who are at school to learn.
- When something happens that you are not ok with regarding discipline etc. send an email to Courtney and Gayle. Always make sure you talk with your principal.
- We have county schools why aren’t more students being referred to county schools especially if they are using substances that it is illegal for them to have. Task force has not yet been formed around behavior yet. 7-11 task force it taking precedence.
- We have the option to suspend a student from our room for 2 days and we must notify the parent as to why they are being removed from your room. We do not have to provide work for the student.
