Review of Agenda
Walk Through Protocol - Maren Rocca Hunt - Cowell Grant w/McPherson, Phillips, Silverado, Shearer, & Napa High data was gathered and it was determined that we weren’t doing as well as we thought we were. We need to teach the kids how to read. Working with Michael McDowell and John Hattie looking at how to connect students and hear what they are learning and what they are thinking. Memory is the residue of thought in a classroom when you depend on collaboration more than half of what you are learning is correct. Protocol is to go into classrooms and talk to kids - what are you learning, make a connection, and be able to see what they are learning. Focusing on the visible learner. Questions are framed toward the students and what they are learning. Focus group is like a conversation with 7 - 10 students where you ask them questions for approx. 10 minutes. How to connect what we are teaching with what is connecting with the kids. This is not evaluative at all. Looking to see how kids are connecting with their learning. How do we connect them in a way that makes them more actively engaged. Once data is gathered conversation will focus on what gaps did we see, students were behaved and compliant but not necessarily engaged in their learning. We are all learning and trying as an instructional department. Money being spent is all grant funding or volunteer time by Maren.
Leadership Conference Debrief
Member Engagement Grant - Ted to ask people to be a part of committees to help with organizing events. How to get higher participation rate there has to be a huge goal that everyone is on board with. Wordle - positive things around the union, belief statement needs to be developed. Gayle shared a Member Event Planning worksheet. You have to have buy in and more people involved in planning.
Accountability Wall Charts - Gayle wants to send out a survey to see if sites are meeting with their principals, 1:1’s with new teachers etc. Form will come out with agenda for site rep meeting
Site Rep Training - Ginger & Gayle will put a date together and call people will be held at the NVEA office. Training on January 30 for all new reps on IBPS if you want to go let Gayle know.
Formula - Formula ran a 1.4 put the district below a 3.0 for the reserves part of the relationship piece. Therefore the ME2 is affected. Idea is to push for a 1% raise to go into the salary schedule. We hold the .4 for a later time to vote to put in to our salaries or health care and provide some education pieces around what we are voting for
Negotiations - Committees not formed yet and will look at them when they are populated, interest around healthcare, transfers, not much input from admin
Communications - no communications
2017-18 Goals - Action Plan - tabled until next time
Meeting adjourned at 5:00pm
