- Council Update 9/15
- Update on Reopening: The intention of the communication on Friday, (IMPORTANT-- Reopening Update Friday, 9/11) was to signal to the organization that we would begin preparing for reopening. We are not ready yet, in an effort to prepare, site principals will be engaging with staff to assess readiness and address gaps. Site Specific Protection Plan Guidelines and Template
- Covid 19 -MOU (July 31)
- Schedule for phase 2 is being reviewed and a version will be shared with teacher representatives before finalized and will be shared with staff before being released to families.
- We have been given the all clear for NCOPH that we are ok to open, however we know that we just can’t show up and start school and are not ready to do so.
- There needs to be continuity amongst sites, it needs to be safe for students and staff. There are site specific plans on what the district wants and what the particular site requires.
- Site principals need to be engaging with their staff that are currently on campus to see where the gaps are and what needs to be fixed to ensure our sites are ready when students return and that it is safe
- There is a meeting with site principals tomorrow
- If you sent in a medical accommodation make sure you have had your interactive processing. Doctor’s note needs to be specific
- Request that all staff members get tested and we are requiring that the testing take place during our contract time. If not then we need to be paid for time outside of contract. A person would basically be tested once a month and teachers cannot opt out.
- District is currently not responsible for testing students if they are sent home because they are experiencing symptoms it is not required for the student to be tested.
- There is a 4 step process for reserving a sub. Gayle will send it out to all of us since there is a mixed message that we have already received it.
- There is a whole procedure about what happens should 5% of a school staff and 25% of schools have outbreaks etc. All information is in the MOU please read it.
- We reviewed an initial proposal to provide a stipend for going over class size maximums.
- The committee on Adjunct Duties will give an update on the challenges they faced in creating district-wide consistency. More information about adjunct duty challenges this year will be gathered at the NVEA site rep meeting and from principals in an attempt to understand the unique challenges related to the pandemic.
- Currently there are about 67% of the families that want to return to school
- Why the rush? The “mid-october” announcement was due to public pressure doesn’t mean we will be going back mid October. We are in the red and there is pressure to open up schools. It will take approx 4-6 weeks to get ready to open. We are looking at opening the same time as the other schools in the valley
- Private schools are already opening
- There has to be some schedule changes at secondary so to cohorts being unbalanced
- How will teachers whose child is in the am group and would have to pick them up during the middle of the day with less time in the middle of the day, how do they have enough time to pick up their child?
- If you don’t have masks in your room check with your principal
- People at home who have family members at home who if they got covid it would be detrimental, if this situation that applies to you, you need to apply to the district and you need a note from your family member’s doctor that you need that accommodation with HIPPA being honored
- If you have applied for a medical leave or accommodation you have to go and have an interactive process contact Elizabeth Gonzales or Cheryl Anderson
- In phase 2 employees need to back at school unless you have a medical accommodation even on non-student days
- Cohort is not clear for secondary state says 14 students and we follow what is written in NCOE’s Covid 19 guidelines, not what state has posted
- There will be cleaning between am/pm cohort
- If you still have questions email them to NVEA.cta
- Mod to severe sped students will be coming back on 9/28/20 - to make sure everything is in place. Not all of their students are coming back with no more than 8 they have additional PPE like gowns, full hazmat.
- We have been given the all clear for NCOPH that we are ok to open, however we know that we just can’t show up and start school and are not ready to do so.
