Representative Council Meeting Minutes

a. NVEA Budget Notice: Proposed budget discussed. It is a working budget. NVEA provides $500 for 5 high schools. Members have one month to look over the budget. Site reps will vote on budget at October Site Rep meeting.

c. Leadership Conference—October 14-15 Outreach Organizing: Change of format from previous years. Attendees organized into teams; asked to commit to returning to a local and being on a committee and campaign for Tax Fairness. February Good Teaching Conference, take someone from your site with you.
d. Survey/Contract year: http://tinyurl.com/nvea-survey District would like to sunshine certain concerns and articles to the public. The survey would allow for true input from members on the contract. Concerns will be worked out in Council. When responding to the survey, grade level must be included in order to sort the concerns appropriately. Members are encouraged to share any concern, even if they don’t know which article it applies to. Deadline to respond to survey is October 7th.
e. Council Appointments: Council meets once a month to discuss any issues/concerns (MOUs, contract, etc), and a report is sent out quarterly by email or a summary is given at Rep Council. Teachers who sit on Council are appointed by the NVEA president, and they consist of 2 teachers from elementary, 2 from middle school, 2 from high school, and 2 from the Executive Board. Administration also has 8 members sitting on Council. Current NVEA Council members are Ginger Dunne (Alta Heights), Kathy Tschida (Canyon Oaks), Mike Willmarth (Redwood), Patty Wyman (Silverado), Beth Goff (American Canyon High), Maria Vega (Napa High), Linda Hansen (Executive Board), and Gayle Young (Executive Board). Administrative members include Mike Mansuay, Troy Knox, Ashley Halliday, Maria Cisneros, Annie Petrie, Mark Morrison, Maren Rocca-Hunt, and Adam Stein. Jana Jack moved to approve NVEA appointments to Council. Nancy Moore seconded. Motion carried.
f. California Casualty Contest: Winning school will have their faculty room redecorated.
g. Health Fair: To be held October 5th at the District Office.
h. Election Chair: Shelley Reynolds (Snow) will now hold this position.
i. GLBT Chair: Michael Alger (Vintage) will now hold this position.
j. Women’s Issues: Chrissy Cotten will now hold this position. Nick Cheranich moved to appoint these members to these positions. Dave Estes seconded. Motion carried.
k. Site Visits: Let Linda or Gayle know if you would like to sign up for a site visit.

a. Membership: Genevieve will be trained on the new membership program. CTA cards will be sent out to the sites. New teachers should have received membership forms and should call Payroll to find out if they are in fact members. Additional membership forms are available in Payroll.
Women’s Issues—Chrissy Cotten: No report.
-starting in December we’ll meet in grade levels and share out concerns
-write down site concerns on easel or email Linda
-Napa High: some teachers are holding class on furlough days
-no teacher should be working on furlough day
-liability issues because no administration
-Linda working on getting 3 furlough days back
-Linda: send out a letter regarding the issue of working on furlough days
-furlough days will be discussed at budget meetings
-administration received an email explaining that no meetings should be held during furlough times
-administration should not be calling meetings during break or lunch time
-PBL trainings: possible dates needed to apply for grants (Phillips)
-music schedules not interrupting core
-ALPS testing taking too much class time (West Park)
-Napa High: people being pulled out for trainings on Wednesdays instead of staying at sites for PLCs
-Phillips: 5th/6th grade students no resource or speech specialist
