  • Norms - were reviewed and agreed upon by all

    • Liz Corey was marked absent but was actually present

  • California Casualty

  • Prop 15 -Survey
    • Still trying to get Prop 15 passed
    • Agriculture property is exempt only affects businesses like Chevron if you purchased a home recently you are paying more taxes than Chevron
    • There are a lot of “no” advertisements being aired
    • This Proposition is important to help fund education



  • NVEA Budget
    • Committee met on 10/18/20, members were asked to review the budget, jot down questions and it will be voted on at our next meeting
    • Changes for 2020-21: 
      • dues increase, activities and programs remain in budget even though they aren’t happening live at the present time, funds are held for an IFT grant (Paige Pleasant) and chapter reimburses when receipts are presented, added electronic voting, Office supplies increased to purchase new desktop computer for NVEA office

  • Council Update
    • Survey Results
      • As of 10/24/20 - 840 members with 420 responses

  • SPED
    • Areas to address for 2020-21:  Caseloads, workload, curriculum 
    • If there are additional concerns please let us know

  • MOU - Elementary Class size overage (what’s the hold up?)
    • Ongoing discussion - concerns about transitioning (moving from in person to virtual)
    • Classes aren’t solid yet and numbers are supposed to be looked at this Friday and discussed at council meeting on Tues 11/3/20

  • End of week questions with short turnaround time
    • On 10/30/20 survey will be sent out to site reps to send members to see how first week went to share with council on Tuesday, 11/3/20 asking for top 3 concerns

  • Membership- Cards, rosters, events
    • If you have not received your membership card (electronically to email address on record with CTA, normally home email address)
    • Membership card may have been attached to last Educator magazine
      • If you didn’t get your membership card send an email to nvea
    • Rosters - CTA has not updated the rosters as of 10/26/20
    • Events - should be receiving updates from CTA with classes and trainings they are holding, etc. attend if you can

  • What’s going well?
    • Communication is going well at sites
    • It is very important to celebrate positives and acknowledge what is going well

  • Leveled Break-Out rooms to share site concerns and instructions on new communication structure.

      • 2 contacts - director at large and another member please cc each of your exec board representatives when sending your notes to your site members
    • 10 Minute Meeting

  • Other:
    • Minutes will be sent to site reps by the end of the week to send out to members
    • Money from 20 hours will appear on our November paycheck
      • Make sure every member fills out the timesheet
    • Why were we at a negative with the formula?
      • Formula is based on a 2 year plan
      • 19-20 school year budgeted amount and more was spent on our unit
      • The negative from 19-20 school year and what was budgeted for 20-21 both ran into a negative.
      • Whatever the formula runs is applied to our compensation
      • Goal is positive intent and do no harm
      • We are a me to unit what happens to certificated happens to all
      • If you stop step and column it’s a nightmare when it started back up
      • Go to district website since everything is public
      • How are the new people being hired at the district office affecting our side of the formula?  
      • Our unit is 61.3%
