- Welcome
- Review of Agenda
- Check in
- Technology Update - we should be involved in the bond since it will affect our members there will be this portable promethian board. The district has not looked into mounting the boards. All training for ECHO/Aeries should happen during the workday not during the prep time. Gayle believes the trainings will be offered during the 2 PD days that were added. There will be summer trainings that teachers will get paid $150.00 for attending outside of school hours. We can see if teachers can get non-transferable salary credit. District is still in the bid process and were very careful to not mention brand names. Rosanna is all about training for teachers.
- Upcoming CTA Conferences -
- report out - Gayle & Courtney went to human rights. For dinner they had to go to different places in the room where they felt they were misunderstood, strengths, and most fortunate. NEA says we are a white supremise culture. Education is the indoctrination of white supremecy. David Gracia is not fond of PBIS. He has a 6th grader who has been bullied and nothing has been done to the student doing the bullying. Slogan at Silverado is see something say nothing. We are not a system designed to handle he behaviors we are seeing we do not have the mental health services nor training to deal with the issues that some of our kids have. We don’t revisit the families who fill out papers saying they are homeless, fave food insecurities and we need to find someway to revisit it. Visalia teacher’s union very anti PBIS and the problem teachers are having and implemented in a way that is effective. Need the resources and the training. District has changed their way with suspensions and expulsions but doesn’t have anything to replace it.
- Redwood Educators - conference is taking place 4/5/19 and 4/6/19. Gayle isn’t pushing attendance at this.
- Negotiations
- Committees - upcoming meetings evaluation committee meeting 3/19/19. Assignment impact hasn’t met because everything they have discussed has been put in place. David Damico is doing the same thing with AERIES etc. Should be doing the same thing with bond issues. There is suppose to be some digital citizenship stuff for kids, a program for kids who are using devices inappropriately.
- Communications Structure Plan - can we send something out monthly or quarterly CSEA sends something out as well as facilities/maintenance. Difficutl part is generating info to print and create the content.
- Next Member Engagement Event - May or June? At the runway “fly into summer” 5/10/19 3:30 - 5pm
- NVEA Elections - make sure there are more signatures than ballots will be counted on 3/29 at NVEA office
- Issues
- Budget problems - very transparent no hidden plans. All tosa’s received a possible reassignment. All temps got not coming back notice. Needed to cut an additional $2million we are getting rid of people, but addign days. No one who is a permanent teacher will not be laid off for 2019-2020. The positions that are temp will be the backfill for people on leave. TOSA’s were met with last week and they have had input as to what the positions will look like. There will be 11 TOSA’s left and everyone else will be reassigned in the classroom. There will be three district TOSA’s moved from general fund into title 2 or title 3. The ones that do not get a position have to apply. There will be site assignments Tier 1 schools have a .5 tosa assigned to their site but not part fo the finance the FTE will be housed with the district not site specific. Tier 2 schools are getting a 1.0 FTE Tosa and Tier 3 schools are getting a 1.5 FTE TOSA. Job description was worked on Thursday and it was broken down into tiers and what the job would look like at each tier. They will be able to put in for transfers and placed administratively. The March 1st deadline was for volunteer. We have contract language regarding moving someone to another place. Volunteers are asked for, then credentials and qualifications are looked at and then seniority within the district. There is a decline in Redwood’s 6th grade class.
- Seniority List - Gayle has a seniority list that is alphabeitcal three are multiple teachers who have the same number on the seniority list. They will look at credential and Gayle wants a list that she can sort by credential, name, etc.
- Temp - all temporary positions have been notified that they wont have a job for 2019-2020. No permanent teacher will be laid off for 2019-2020, however there may be layoffs for 2020-2021.
- Subs - huge problem can’t pay them more money. If you are home with a sick kid and often need a note from the doctor.
- Dependent audit - has been a nightmare. American Fidelity is not suppose to be soliciting their product. Members need to tell AF rep I am not interested in their products need to make sure our people know they can say no.
- Bylaws - need to be ammended to address family members serve together in exec board positions, and if running for exec board should have been a prior site rep and if running for president should currently be part of the exec board. We should contact someone at CTA for guidelines regarding aformentioned issues.
- RSCC and State Council Info
- Red For Ed - push for NEA & CTA to wear red on Friday. 61.33% of any unrestricted base funding.
- Strikes update
- Possible NBA for State Council - Lice if student comes to class with Lice with live bugs are sent to the nurse. Nurse says yep you have lice go back to class. Lice is not infectious. This is from the CDC.
