- Welcome - meeting called to order at 3:35pm
- Review of Agenda
- Review February Minutes were approved by all in attendance
- CTA Conferences -
- report out of Human Rights - Courtney gave a brief recap of the Human Rights conference
- Cordelia Leadership meeting
- Gayle attends meetings monthly. Travis Unified was not in a good spot and were going to fact finding which means negotiations aren’t going well.
- There will be an additional SDC class added to Willow (no age group is known at this time), the TLC program will be moving to West Park and kinder academy is going to Snow.
- Negotiations
- Impact -
- Vetting Form for all stakeholders to have input with the ECHO/AERIES transition
- Impact -
- Continued Professional Growth
- Evaluations met decided that they needed to clean up language and that the information is clear
- The form was not user friendly, suggested that there be a training so we are all familiar with the new system
- PBIS - Leads are meeting next door looking at success rates across elementary, middle, and high school. Discussion with counselors regarding MTSS (multi-tier support systems). There will be a training in the future.
- SPED - meeting next week possibly
- Budget
- Report from Roadshow
- powerpoint and 2nd interim report available on the district website under the latest board meeting agenda. When class size was mentioned it doesn’t mean adding more kids it meant maximizing the classes we currently have and that they are full. There is contract language around the maximum amount of kids that you can have in your class (article 13)
- No one will have more than 36 students (secondary) in one class. The goal is to have a balance and create equity
- Question was asked about how top heavy our district is. Gayle referenced the organizational chart of the district. There has been talk about reorganizing within the district. Gayle will email the current organizational chart out to everyone
- Rosanna has an administrative background in finance
- Report from Roadshow
- Next Member Engagement Event May 10 at The Runway
- Last member engagement at St. Clair Brown was very successful. There were about 50 members present.
- NVEA Elections
- Reminder to Turn in Ballots by 3:30pm on Friday, March 29th to NVEA office or to HR.
- TOSA Reassignments
- Seniority List
- 1 TOSA at middle schools has been cut in half of what they had. The job needed to be changed and there will be more centralization within the district.
- All TOSA’s were called in to a meeting where a discussion was had regarding what a different kind of TOSA would look like.
- New job description was rolled out Friday and there was a meeting for those who were interested in applying and that interest needs to be in by Friday. Those people not going into the TOSA’s position will be administratively transferred (article 9 in contract)
- Seniority list is by number of years (your hire date so there might be multiple people at the same round). There is a whole checklist that will be reviewed (type of credential, do you have BCLAD, etc.). This will take place if there are no volunteers.
- It is unsure how Legacy is paid and whether or not there needs to be a credentialed teacher present in the class vs. a credentialed teacher on record. Who is responsible should something happen in the class? Gayle will look into this.
- Subs
- Horrible problem right now and worse than they have been.
- District gets subs from the county office and we are in the same sub pool as St. Helena, Calistoga, Howell Mountain, etc. There is talk about paying them more so we are more able to attract subs to come sub for our district.
- Suggested that they hit up the retirees and minimize the amount of paperwork and hoops they have to jump through just to be a sub with the district they retired from.
- There is a sub group called SLING. We are currently in an agreement with the county.
- Dependent Audit
- You do not need to buy anything. Please tell members to say they are not interested. Concerns have been forwarded to the head American Fidelity person. Let them know that you are not interested in purchasing anything.
- RSCC
- RSCC NEA-RA election results - Mike Wilmarth and Gayle Young are going to NEA-RA in Houston from July 1-7.
- Report from meeting
- Mike shared info about the meeting he attended. Districts are dealing with the same things that we are dealing with. He would like a feel for what we are thinking about PBIS at our sites. There is a consensus that PBIS has taken away the tools that we used and nothing is being addressed regarding our Tier 3 behavior kids.
- The board wants a study session regarding PBIS. It was suggested that we do an internal survey amongst our site reps.
- CTA State Council Info
- Meets 3/29-3/31
- Red For Ed on 1st Friday of the month
- This is not about our district, but supporting funding for education. No intent against our district
- Strikes update - San Ramon settled, Sacramento 93% strike authorization vote and not sure where they are at.
- Possible NBI (new business item) for State Council
- Lice in the classroom - new statewide policy; kids with live lice sent to the office and they are sent back to the classroom, no longer sent home until gnat free. Gayle wants to propose that kids who come to school with live bugs be sent home. Sites are being told that parents cannot be notified unless there are more than 5 students with lice in a given class. Gayle will move forward with proposing this at State Council
- Other
- Needs to be brought to districts attention regarding lack of equity for EL and SPED students with the doing away of the extra period at the middle schools. Any student who is in an intervention class, directed studies class, or EL class will not receive an elective, thus resulting in the possibility of our elective classes being segregated with predominantly caucasian students.
- Email NVEA.CTA@GMAIL.COM if you are having issues with ferrell cats, racoons, mice, rats, etc.
- Good things happening at sites: WOW week, staff comes together to support staff member in need, Peer support group, Jazz dance will be performing for entire school, participating in a self care plan, students in the paper, successful field trip to career day at fairgrounds,
