Presidents Report
- State Council - no report yet Gayle is working on it. Gayle is serving on evaluations committee at State Council and she went to a presentation from San Juan Unified. They have some good things in place where evaluations are focused on growth. We we will look at including some of those practices in our evaluations at NVUSD
- Open Nominations for State Council Rep - Gayle received a call from governance regarding State Council Term limits. Mike’s term is for 3 years, however Gayle was finishing up Linda’s 3 year term and her position is up this year. We need to hold open nominations and hold an election filling the opening. Let your site rep know if you are intersted in running for state council (4 weekends a year along with 4 additional meetings in Santa Rosa)
- May 1 Day of Action - CTA district wide is holding a Day of Action showing that we are all working together in support of public education. Should be site based showing positive side of public education.
- Vacaville’s Teachers Association Resolution They are looking for other chapters endoursement. Resolution is in concern to ICE coming in to schools and is more as a preventative. Has links to ed code and law. There is an ED Justice training on 4/6/17 in Cordelia going over ICE questioning, rights to education privacy, enforcement on school grounds etc. All were in favor of supporting Vacaville Teacher’s Association. Question was asked why don’t we do something similar. Gayle has more information and LouAnn Talbert agreed to spearhead similar resolution for NVUSD.
- MOU on long term leave/partial leave for 2017-18 - If you are on leave you needed to notify district whether or not you are returning. The date has been moved up to the first friday in march to align with the other deadline dates for transfers etc.
ByLaws - Ginger is reviewing them
Salary Schedule Spread Sheet for Districts in Napa/Solano Counties - March 7, 2017 current salary schedule of all schools in the area. NVUSD is the 3rd highest paid salary for first year teachers
CTA Update - Steve Savage
- New member Conversations - each chapter is being asked to reach out to members who have never been to a CTA sponsored event etc. and to help them get engaged (talk to them about professional development and what they would like to see offered. Asking all sites to have a 10 min union meeting to fill out survey for Cordelia Instructional Leadership Conference in October 2017. Steve handed out a script as well as palm cards to be used when we have that one-on-one conversation with at least one new union member.
- CILC - member driven professional development training in Cordelia October 2017
- Budget deficit of $24 million for 4 years. Ted is serving on the district budget committee. An NVEA Union Member One Pager has been developed with facts that we know, questions about the information provided, and what our interests are as NVEA members moving forward. Gayle has been promised by Wade Roach and Patrick Sweeney 3 meetings after spring break at Vintage H.S., Napa H.S., and American Canyon H.S., for parents and teachersfor us to ask and them to explain what is going on. Not one teacher or Counselor has been laid off. Steve shared that their are people who are responsible and it is our job to hold them responsible for the mess. There is another budget action committee meeting on 4/4/17 would be a good idea to have info and concerns back to Ted by that meeting.
- Council Update -
- Elementary Prep - A power point being put together for elementary schedules and workload.
- Salary schedules - Philips salary schedule is the same as the entire district
- Evaluations - Moving toward a growth model, more info to come
