In attendance:  President - Gayle Young, Vice President - Mary Duenow, Secretary - Debbie Kmiec, Treasurer - Karen Fleming, Directors-At-Large: High School - Deb St. Clair, Middle - Sara Kvidahl-Schmitz, Elementary - Kristin Pruitt, Communication - Mike Wilmarth,  Human Rights/Chief Negotiator - Courtney Garcia, Grievance - Jen Can, CTA Rep - Michelle Washington

    • Currently in the site transition phase
      • All districts in the state are going through the same situation with school closures, however those districts are going about the closures a different way than what we are doing.  They are just closing schools.
    • Heavy push during open enrollment with a unified approach, goal is to not compete with schools.  All of our schools are great
    • TK-8 at Browns Valley and Shearer with more classes being added at BV
    • Demographics of Unidos represent demographics of the district 
    • There are some resource and SDC students that will be attending Unidos
    • Push is to provide support to student, staff, and families
    • This is the fastest we have ever turned master schedules around
    • Unidos positions have been posted with BCLAD emphasis
    • Holding student and family events 
    • Monica is starting a middle school advisory group with 15 - 20 students from all sites with Open Houses in April and a field trip in May.
    • Staff socials will continue.  3/11/22 having social at Unidos with lunch provided
    • Mascot has been chosen and they will be the Otters with colors Teal, Burgundy, and Goldenrod
    • Developing the Spanish pathways so everyone is enrolled in the appropriate courses
    • Matt is working on K-8 vision and program
    • Multilingual ed and sped have been slowed down with everything else going on in the district around school closure, developing new programs.  Better to do a couple things well than more things half assed.

      • There will be a common start and end time for all middle schools
      • Once structure is in place and people know where they are landing, how can we create our teams well
    • Grading for equity 
      • Learning how to grade with a student’s best interest in mind
      • Not yet ready to take on standards based grading
      • Based around common practices

  • Middle school student device use and requesting device monitoring - Securely Pilot
    • There has been support for suicide all principals and assistant principals are being trained tomorrow on higher tier items being searched through the server.  All of this is currently going through Mike Mansuy
    • Jordan is looking to pilot securely with a small group
 
  • Covid Leave -State stuff
    • 2 weeks goes back to January, only 2 people have had in in between this transition

  • Vaccination Mandate -pause but not gone
    • Mask mandates will be revisited on 2/28/22 and it is more of those who are vaccinated versus not

  • PKS and Layoffs
    • Approved 34 positions being eliminated (5 sped, 2 math, 11 elem, 5 middle school core, 2  counselors, 1 art, 2 science, 1 music, 2 PE, 2 social studies)
    • We have 20 retirees and 3 just left and aren't finishing out the year and 23 open positions that left
    • The number of people being given the retirement bonus has been expanded and the deadline has been pushed back to 2/28/22

  • MS Social/Mixer March 11 at River (tentative)
    • NHS talked about providing lunch for their staff on the PD day
    • 1st part of the PD day is info from Rosanna
    • 3 workshops done by noon with the district possibly providing lunch or NVEA going in with the district

  • Charter Petition Update
    • CTA is sending out new charter petition, letters to the editor, being sent to all 3,000 county union members, we need additional people to sign so we can get up to 400 will go out next wednesday at 7:30am
    • We are working in partnership with other unions who are in support of NVEA against Mayacamas
    • On 3/7/22 Barb Nemko might be coming to meet with us around the charter.

  • State Budget looking good over 6.14% with the possibility of getting a sweet raise

  • Process for funding member engagement per site
    • Must have a receipt for reimbursement.
    • This is for the engagement of your staff. Consider what engages the most of your staff.
    • Keep in mind, COVID, keep in mind access to as many of your NVEA members receive the benefit of this engagement money. Be cautious of 1st come 1st served events that exclude members. Building community, promoting opportunities for your members to interact and engage your site members.
