- Schools and Communities First - Signature Gathering Tutorial, OpEd, and Counterclaims & Rebuttals March 12, 2020 is the deadline for the petitions to be at CTA office in Burlingame.
- Michael Alger is in signature gathering and is currently not on the ballot. If passed will take out the property tax loopholes with big corporations will generate an exter $12 billion a year for schools, fire departments, police departments, etc.
- Prop 13 2020 is the school bond initiative
- Reminder of Transfer process -Article 9 - end date to turn in voluntary transfers is March 6, 2020. There will be voluntary transfers if there are open positions. Things are very tight. Administrative transfers have to be completed before voluntary transfers happen. The timeline will begin as soon as the RIF’s are informed. Voluntary transfers will happen later than normal. If you get a call that there is a position at a school you want to transfer to and change your mind you aren’t obligated to take that transfer. You can change your mind. There will not be the mass interviews that there were last year. We are employees of the district not the school site. Rif’s create position openings throughout the district. There has to be vacancies, you cannot bump people just because you want that position at that school.
- State Council Elections - Timeline is attached as well as the Candidacy Form and share with everyone at your site. NVEA has a general position open not an at-large position. There will be alternates.
- NEA -RA - National Education Association - Representative Assembly
- We have the ability to send 6 people to the RA in Atlanta, GA July 1, 202 to July 7, 2020. If anyone is interested let Gayle know.
- There is no money attached. You will have to pay for this yourself. You don’t have to pay to go in, but do have to pay for food, hotel and airfare.
- Everyone should have received a link to do the state elections (CTA sends a representative from each region). The voting for the state election will be done electronically and will be coming through your home email.

- Professional Growth - Evaluation
- The process is something that will be continued. There are concerns revolve around it being done all on-line.
- There will more than likely be a survey going out to be developed at our next council meeting
- Adjunct Duties -
- SPED - please remind sped teachers to fill out form anytime they do work outside contract hours there will be no name sharing for Gayle and Debbie’s eyes only to report the number of hours spent outside contract working on sped stuff. No need to worry about repercussions.
- Stipends - MOU at our last meeting with the difference between middle school and high school to split them because high school does things different than what middle school does. We will open the year with stipends. We want to make sure that there are clear guidelines with there being site based decisions year to year. There are job descriptions for each duty. Need to go forward to make sure everything is clear and understandable by all. 3 - 4 contracts ago there was a change with high school and the change in their stipend positions (dept chairs). Was at one point a .2 release time.
- Next Member Engagement Event - March 20 at Napa Sport
- RIF Update - Gayle sent an email this morning please make sure it is shared with everyone. It will be only 50 to 60 people laid off. There were more listed because schedules aren’t completed yet, schools could be making changes. Legally the district has to have information out for the school board agenda which is public. Gayle requested that the district notify NVUSD teachers prior to everyone else getting the information. There are not 101 teachers, it will be about 50 to 60 teachers, yet the district needs to overnotify because schedules aren’t set in stone yet. 20 TOSA positions are being eliminated yet it is actually 32 because those TOSA’s go back into the classroom which increases the elementary lay-off number to 32. There are multiple seniority lists. Person A is a science teacher and that positions is being eliminated, but said science teacher has math credential and if person A has more seniority than a math teacher person A slips into the math position and it is possible that the science only person might get RIF’ed. Feb 20 study session powerpoint talks about Middle School. Any teacher administratively transferred will be given a choice. Reassignments will also be notified by March 15 (outlined in Article 9 of the contract). There was a termination/re-assignment and admin was listed. School Board meeting this thursday 2/27/20. Gayle will be talking about what our interests are and that it is important that we support the teachers that we currently have.
