- Membership Processes post Janus
- happened in June a Supreme Court Case being able to be an agency fee payer or not pay at all
- Ruling stated even though union is responsible with negotiations, salary schedules, working conditions etc. if someone is opposed to paying they can drop their membership and not have to pay dues, however they do not get legal representation, no voting rights on contract, school schedules, you can voice your opinion but can’t be part of the decision making. We have had one person drop that unions couldn’t control
- If a person comes to you and says they don’t want to be a member anymore, send them to Gayle for a one-on-one meeting, handwritten letter with signature (electronic version not allowed), etc.
- No longer agency fee
- There is a political opt out - can check with HR to see if you have opted out if not you can fill out a new form
