Minutes - March minutes will be posted on the website.
Treasurer Report - We are on track and the accountant was here and will be back at the end of the year
Presidents ReportElection Materials State Council Rep - Election materials for each site are located in the back. No one else was interested except Gayle. Remember you need the the same number of signatures as there are ballot. You can have more signatures and less ballots, but not more ballots than signatures.
May 1 Day of Action - #NapaLovesEducation - instagram, facebook, twitter, pro-education kind of day, picture of teachers and kids working together, you and your class, support staff, goal is to educate children. We need all the positives we can get.
Announcements - Teacher Appreciation Event at River Point - Teachers should have been notified by site secretary.
Accountability - We as site reps receive a stipend for our position. Teachers at some sites aren’t receiving information which means some site reps aren’t sharing information. We need to remember that anything sent via email through the school districts server can be opened up by district personnel. Gayle is looking for a group of site reps to come up with norms and responsibilities of site reps (Debbie Kmiec and Nancy Lussier volunteered). Site reps need to be notified of new members who have been placed at or come to work at their sites (ie: itinerant teachers placed at given sites who are certificated). We need to work on updating NVEA’s website.
CTA Update - Steve Savage unable to attend due to being held up at another eventNew member Conversations -
CILC - workshops requested by teachers please reach out to members at your site
District Budget Committee Report - Ted Ward referenced slides from the FAQ. Patrick Sweeney and Wade Roach are aware of the anger amongst the teachers and are willing to put themselves out their to hear our concerns. Meetings will be monitored to prevent chaos, attacking etc. District has requested that the demographers be present and NVEA will do introductions making sure members questions are addressed. Suggestion was made to have site reps check with teachers at their site to see if they have specific questions that they want to be addressed and then those questions can be answered at each of the 3 meetings. What are next steps if we don’t feel our questions are answered? We need to give these three meetings a chance and then come together to debrief and discuss next steps if any. We should have information on trend for budget by May 18 and more information will be given at the May site rep meeting. Minutes will be taken at each of the three meetings and posted. Steve Savage said that he will be present at the meetings. Gayle has asked that school board members be present at the meetings as well.
Chief Negotiatior- Ginger DunneCouncil UpdateNurses - Nurses are preparing a presentation to the school board. The district is going from 6 credentialed nurses down to four.
Evaluations - We will be piloting a new evaluation tool for 2017-18 school year. Once we are done piloting this new system a discussion will be had toi determine roll out as well as pros and cons.
Elementary Prep - Working on a powerpoint to send out to principals and site reps. Sites who are banking minutes to get prep time in need to work it so that there is a 60 min prep period per day as well as an hour prep on Wednesday.
Principal Evaluations - Question was asked about principal evaluations. There should be a 360 evaluation offered to all staff members for input.
Vice President - Membership - Mary Duenow not present
Directors Reports - Communication - Mike Wilmarth handed out a flyer to post at sites for upcoming budget meetings. We need to get teachers present at these budget meetings. The message has been sent that teachers do not want someone reading from the slides, but to be able to ask questions and get answers. There will be an opportunity to ask questions that you as NVEA members have. You can go to any meeting on any scheduled day not based on the site you work at.
Adjournment - Meeting was adjourned at 5:15pm
Next Site Rep Meeting: May 22, 2017 at 3:30pm in Room 205.
