- Good Teaching Conference: Had 17 people attend. A few site reps who attended reported out. All had a great time at dinner Saturday night. Mike reported out about the IFT (Institute for Teaching) which is a non-profit CTA grant program for encouraging innovative ideas for classrooms and school sites ($5,000 for single person grants; $20,000 for chapter grants).
- Stress Release: Compadres this Thursday at 3:30. Would like to start doing these social get-togethers regularly next year.
- Day of the Teacher: River Pointe 3:30; try to sign up for RSVP but still can attend even if don’t sign up.
- Bond Measure H: Principals were given task of getting teachers to help with phone banking. Suggestion made to utilize the debate or speech teams from the college to help with the phone banking. Linda will be delivering lawn signs to schools on Thursday, let your secretary know if you would like one.
- IFT Flyer: Available on back table. Teacher Leadership Flyer and Summer Institute flyers also available.
- Negotiations: Jaymi sent out Council updates to secretaries; will change that so it goes to site reps who should forward them on. One-time money of 1.5% of current salary will come in June pay warrants; any future one-time monies that come from the state will be paid in the November pay warrants (61% after 10% off the top for GASB (holding for retiree benefits) then 62% of what’s left will come straight to teachers. District will renew class size waiver with CDE (applies to number of contacts at the middle schools; was based on 1968 numbers; needed to update it to current numbers; won’t change any class sizes). All middle schools are looking at site based waivers for different types of schedules (i.e. increasing number of classes per day, class size, contacts, length of day, etc.). Next year council will look at actual number of contacts within entire district and adjust contract language if needed. Stipends committee will meet again on Wednesday, should be finishing up this work at this meeting. Work load Committee will be meeting tomorrow. Long term goal of Workload Committee is to get the district to really be cognizant of what really goes into implementing each new thing (ensure district fully resources any new thing they are considering bringing on). Short term goal is to help address workload needs of current things we have going on (such as Bridges at the elementary schools). Pass along to Mike any ideas or questions you may have.
